Employees on secondment
Employees on secondment are employees who work abroad for a limited period for a Swiss employer.
Employees on secondment are still required to take out insurance in Switzerland. This applies for up to 24 months, with the option of extension for up to six years.
As a rule, employees on secondment are required to remain insured in Switzerland for the entire duration of the secondment.
However, if you are also required to take out insurance in the country of employment, you can apply for an exemption from the compulsory cover in Switzerland.
Employees on secondment are required to take out insurance in Switzerland. There are no exceptions.
The requirement to be insured in Switzerland remains in force for two years. This can be extended to six years on request.
All family members who are not gainfully employed must also be insured in Switzerland (for two to a maximum of six years).
