FAQ
As a citizen of an EU/EFTA state or the United Kingdom (UK), you are not required to take out insurance in Switzerland if you remain a member of the social security system of your country of residence.
Exception: If you are gainfully employed in Switzerland, you must take out insurance in Switzerland (place-of-work principle).
Treatments in Switzerland: You can receive treatment in Switzerland on presentation of your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
If you have private insurance in your country of residence equivalent to Swiss health insurance coverage you can apply for an exemption from compulsory insurance. You can find all the details here.
